Visa Application Center (VAC)
The Visa Application Center (VAC) is where citizens who wish to process an U.S. visa must go to collect their biometric data, which includes having their fingerprints and digital photograph taken. It is a step prior to your interview at the U.S. embassy or consulate.
An appointment at the VAC to have your biometrics taken is only required in some countries. In those countries where there is no VAC, this step will be done directly at your embassy appointment.
See below for the location and specific VAC information available in each country:
VAC appointment for fingerprints and photograph
To process U.S. visa application, you must go to the VAC to collect biometric data prior to the consular interview at the embassy to verify the identity of the applicant.
We will take care of scheduling your appointment at the VAC.
On the day of your appointment at the VAC, you must arrive at least 15 minutes early and bring the necessary documentation with you. An agent from the Visa Application Center will take your fingerprints electronically as well as a digital photograph.
Upon taking your biometric data, the agent will return your documentation and give you instructions for your consular appointment at the embassy or consulate.
Security measures at the VAC
All people who come to the VAC are subject to a security check. You are not allowed to enter the building with the following items:
- Electronic devices such as cell phones, laptops, or tablets, as well as any battery-operated devices
- Oversized handbags or purses
- Food and liquids
- Sealed envelopes or packages
- Cigarettes or lighters
- Sharp objects such as scissors, razors, or nail files
- Any type of weapon
Documents required for your appointment at the VAC
On the day of your appointment at the Visa Application Center you will need to come with mandatory documentation.
We recommend that you prepare in advance and have the following documents with you:
- Valid and unexpired passport
- Confirmation page of the correctly completed DS-160 form (we will email it to you)
